Wishes and More Wishes

Day 308:

"Make A Wish! That's really neat," comments a co-worker.

I was telling that we had an appointment tonight with Make A Wish volunteers at the house. I know that Make A Wish is 'cool' and 'neat', but we would rather not have cancer - is there a wish for that?

"It's really great," I replied.

How neat that a charity is out there for kids and their families that offer what they do.

6:30PM, Harry and Sharon arrive right on time (with a small gift in hand for each kid). They are the perfect Make A Wish couple. One look at them and you know that they are giving, caring, and want to take a bad experience, like cancer, and give you a bit of sunshine.

I would have to say that just sitting and talking with them was a gift in itself. Kim said it best, "This experience is about relationships." The people you meet, the deeper bonds you develop, the outreach you experience,....it's beyond words at times.

The process for Make A Wish was painless for the most part. Hannah and Sharon had some alone time to discuss her wishes (please say new Harley, please say new Harley). Harry kept us busy with some paper work and great conversation. I think I struggled most with my age / birth date the most when it came to paperwork. It wasn't that I couldn't remember the year I was born, but more so that I kept writing out my age,...on form after form after form. I'm going to need my own Make A Wish to lift my spirits - or a big 40th birthday celebration.

Okay,... so Hannah's big choices for her wish - Give Kids the World was #1, followed closely by kitten. No wait, we got one of those! So the #2 choice is time with Hannah Montana (if it's number two, I'm hoping to get a little one on one, father to father time with Billy Ray for a little Achey Breaky recap).

Couldn't have said it better myself! And, isn't it just incredible how something can take one's word's away? Oh, the blessings.

Love,
Shanna

Mom, Dad;
We didn't share with you the fact we both had been divorced and had to start over in midlife. But we just celibrated our 17 yr wedding anniversary---it's been one long honeymoon:-) Between us we have 5 daughters, one of Sharon's 3 daughters had a difficult childhood with severe case of Scoliosos. We've learned what's important and have our priorities right---God and family. Being retired we are blessed to be able to serve at church, mission field AND Make A Wish. Meeting loving families like the Kelly's, keeps us going on our bike training rides for MAW fundraiser.

Shanna;
Thank you for your sweet comments. It's kids like you and Hannah, that have kept us involved with MAW for 19 yrs. While in Florida one yr we took a side trip to 'GKTW' and were amazed at all the wish kid's stars on the ceiling!!

Blessings,
Harry & Sharon
