Missing Minnesota

Day 316:

We head back to Minnesota for a whirlwind trip in May. Reality sits in when you start looking at family medical days left on the calendar for work. Fortunately and unfortunately, Mayo schedulers were able to put our scans and doctors visit in ONE DAY! One L O N G day.

"Steve called. He wants you to call him back tonight," Kim delivered the message as I sat at the computer moments earlier scanning the email and thinking Boy, I really need to connect to see what's happening with everyone.

Since the Cancer Experience, our world has opened up, both in what we now know and in now who we know. Thinking back a year ago, my world revolved around youth basketball and school. Both seem a far second to the connections we made and the growth we've had,... both in Minnesota and back here in Michigan.

I suppose 'Missing Minnesota' is not so much for the state as it is for the people we left. If I sit and stare out the window long enough, I can still picture the 'shortcuts' around Rochester; along with the jaunts to Byron, Plainview, and Waltham to visit friends. Before I know it, I can transport myself back to last summer and the overwhelming comfort given by those who I never knew a year ago - yet feel as if I've known a life time.

Halleluiah! Our pastor just published a list of "Rules for Living". Your revelation fits right in:
1. Do everything as well as possible.
2. Pray and meditate.
3. Walk as much as possible.
4. Make meals a time of relaxation and family discussion-don't just grab a snack.
5. Be comfortable alone with yourself.
6. Keep learning new things.
***7. Make new friends and cherish the old.
8. Enjoy the changing seasons.
9. Stand up for things you value.
10. Eat your fruits and vegetables.
11. Set high expectations for yourself and your children.
12. Church and schools are the heart of the community.
13. Do math in your head.
14. Stay connected with siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews.
15. Write to people, letters are tangible, memorable and re-readable and a true hand-to-mind connection.

Dave-thank you for keeping us connected with your writing and blogs. I know it can be overwhelming. It is appreciated! God Bless you, Kim, Max, Sam, Hannah, the pets, and all your family and friends: old and new!

I would give you some words, but they're all gone. Speechless. Had you asked my a year ago if I'd know what it feels like to love so one so much, I would have told you there was no way. Thank you God, for the Kellys, Huckes, and this life. Thank you. I'm without words. Oh, I love you guys.

Love,
Shanna

What a special post today. Just the other day our family was talking about the Kelly family, asking God how we could be so blessed to have them brought into our lives. God just seems to know when to have paths cross in life, and He was "right on" by bringing our familes together. I know making those L O N G trips to Minnesota can be overwheming, but we can't wait to see you! We live for the visits. Oh by the way, the kitten is quite cute!

See you soon.
Love,
The Deckers
