Day 292:
Danielle came out of surgery with the doctors indicating an infection. They still have to send it off to pathology for the final word, but everything points away from cancer! It's just about all I can do to not cancel the rest of today and have a free for all - and since I'm currently in the middle of a magnetic science experiment with the kids, it seems that we've already accomplished the free for all portion.
I did some research early this morning to find out more about an Open Lung Biopsy. From what I've read, which has been extensive in my five minute period between students coming and asking if there will be extra recess today since the temperature has actually reached the 40's,.... an Open Lung Biopsy is an incision between the ribs to remove a piece of lung tissue. The recovery on something like this is not the most comfortable with breathing normally being one of the downsides. Yet, when the results are NOT cancer,... rough breathing for a while is a lot easier to deal with.
